Affilliated with research projects across University of Toronto Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre at the University Health Network (UHN), and the Centre for Research for Applications of Microfluidic Technologies (CRAFT).
Currently conducting two separate research projects across 4 different institutions, Yaren is an undergraduate researcher passionate about bridging microfluidics and cancer immunotherapies.
· Her fully autonomous microfluidics work focuses on designing and fabricating a PMMA bioreactor for fluidic spatial isolation in epithelial cell cultures.
· Her immunotherapy project focuses on characterizing TGFß-induced regulatory NK cells in the context of the solid tumour microenvironment.
Outside of research, Yaren is an Executive Director at several U of T clubs focused on providing research training to undergraduate students. She is also a weekly Volunteer at Women's College Hospital's Breast Imaging Department where she refuels her motivation for her aspirations. Seeing cancer research translate to patients serves as a weekly reminder that her hard work impacts local communities directly, which drives her passion for research evermore.
She also offers personalized mentoring services and resources to numerous students on professional development, research training, networking, life admin skills and more.
